Imagine walking into your wedding reception without knowing a single person in the room. You’d feel disconnected straight away.
Play songs your friends and family don’t know, and that’s exactly how they’ll feel, and your worst nightmare, an empty dancefloor, becomes a reality!
Now imagine walking into that same room, but this time everyone in it is a friend you love being around. That’s the feeling you create when you play songs your guests already know and love, back-to-back, all night long. No slow warm-up, just floor fillers from the first track.
I’ve played for couples from 33 nationalities, at venues from Gaynes Park to the Mandarin Oriental, and the rule never changes: familiar songs fill dancefloors.
How to ignite your dancefloor
The secret to a room where everybody dances lies in nostalgic hits, topped up with today’s biggest chart anthems. Go back to the songs you loved dancing to at school, college, university, summer BBQs and nights out. Add the tunes your parents and older relatives love to “do their thing” to as well, then sprinkle in the current hits your younger guests know word for word.
Classic memories and fresh favourites side by side give every generation a reason to dance, with their arms in the air and shoes off.
Make it yours
Nostalgia fills the floor, but your personality makes the night. Choose a first dance that tells your story, and sprinkle in the songs that mean something to the two of you: the track you’re known for, the anthem your friendship group can’t resist. Your guests will love seeing the two of you in the music.
